Marine conservation initiatives in the Mediterranean region have focused on the rehabilitation and release of sea turtles into their natural habitats.

In Turkey, two seven-year-old green sea turtles were released in the Manavgat district of Antalya. As part of the ‘Green Sea Turtle Satellite Tracking Program’ led by DEKAFOK, the turtles were fitted with satellite tracking devices to study migration routes and feeding grounds, such as Posidonia seagrass beds.

In Spain, conservation efforts included the release of four loggerhead turtles at Carabassí Beach following specialized care at the Fundación Oceanogràfic de Valencia. These turtles were part of a ‘Head Starting’ program designed to increase survival rates during vulnerable life stages. Additionally, 20 sea turtles were released at Cala en Calderer in Menorca after participating in a similar program.
