A multi-year scientific project focused on the rehabilitation of Posidonia oceanica seagrass in the Mediterranean Sea has reported high success rates. The initiative, involving collaboration between Yeniköy Kemerköy Enerji, Eastern Mediterranean University, and the Muğla Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, utilized transplantation and implantation methods across various depths.

Monitoring data indicates that approximately 90 percent of the more than 200 seagrass clusters relocated to new habitats have maintained healthy lives. Furthermore, about 70 percent of the 1,300 seedlings planted through implantation methods have survived.

Researchers emphasize that these ecosystems are critical blue carbon areas that support marine biodiversity, combat climate change through carbon storage, and protect coastlines from erosion. The methodology and scientific data developed during this study are expected to serve as a reference model for similar marine restoration efforts throughout the Mediterranean.
