Sources: 8. Developments: 2. A Meerut court has convicted Ravita Kashyap and her lover, Amardeep, for the murder of Ravita’s husband, Amit Kashyap. The incident, which occurred in April 2025 in Akbarpur Sadat village, was initially staged to appear as an accidental death caused by a snakebite. A live cobra was discovered beneath the victim, and Ravita claimed the snake was responsible. Forensic investigations and a post-mortem report debunked the hoax, revealing that Kashyap died of asphyxiation due to manual strangulation. The report noted fractures in the hyoid bone, thyroid cartilage, and intense pressure applied to his neck, mouth, and nose. Investigators determined the suspects, who were involved in an extramarital affair, conspired to stage the scene after Amit became aware of their relationship. Key evidence included forensic findings that the snake lacked functional venom sacs and mobile phone records showing over 500 communications between the suspects following the death. Additionally, a snake charmer testified that Amardeep had purchased a snake for 1,000 rupees to facilitate the deception. On October 16, the court sentenced both Ravita and Amardeep to death for murder and criminal conspiracy. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-07: Meerut court convicts wife and lover in staged snakebite murder case A Meerut court has convicted Ravita and her lover Amardeep for murdering Amit Kashyap and attempting to stage the death as a snakebite.
