MEGA has announced and is currently producing a new period drama series titled ‘Kanakara’. Set in the Dodecanese islands during the 1950s, the production is inspired by a Greek tradition from Karpathos where the eldest daughter, or ‘kanakara’, inherits the family estate and responsibilities.

The narrative focuses on twin sisters, Erinia and Sofia, whose lives are shaped by their birth order. The plot explores themes of family secrets and the tension between personal desire and social obligation, specifically when Erinia, who is unable to conceive, asks Sofia for a sacrifice that tests their bond.

Directed by Stamos Tsamis, filming began in July and is expected to conclude in early October.
