The Meeting delle Etichette Indipendenti (MEI) music festival is scheduled to take place in Faenza from October 1 to 4, marking its 30th anniversary. The event serves as a hub for the independent music industry, featuring artist lineups, industry forums, and educational masterclasses.

Programming for the festival includes the national premiere of ‘Quando passa Paolo’, a docufilm exploring the 30-year career of musician Paolo Benvegnù. Other scheduled activities involve the ‘MEI TALK’ series, which addresses topics such as artificial intelligence in art, and the ‘Fiera del disco’.

During the event, industry discussions are expected to address the challenges facing independent creators. MEI coordinator Giordano Sangiorgi has noted that while digital platforms have democratized access, they have also created a “digital monopoly,” with algorithms often favoring mainstream commercial music over independent artists.
