The documentary ‘Melania’, produced by Amazon MGM Studios and co-produced by Melania Trump, chronicles the 20 days leading up to Donald Trump’s second inauguration in January 2025. Following its world premiere on January 29, 2026, the film was distributed in over 240 countries and territories via Prime Video. During a National Republican Congressional Committee fundraising dinner, Donald Trump joked about the film’s success, calling the former First Lady a ‘fantastic movie star’ and quipping that there is only room for one star in a family. Marc Beckman, a senior adviser to Melania Trump, defended the film’s theatrical performance on social media by comparing it to the Tom Cruise film ‘Digger’. Beckman claimed the Melania documentary outperformed ‘Digger’ by approximately 67% on a per-theater basis, noting that while ‘Digger’ averaged roughly $2,408 per theater, the Melania film yielded approximately $4,027 per theater. Despite this efficiency, the film faced financial hurdles; Amazon reportedly spent $75 million on acquisition and marketing, while the documentary concluded its theatrical run with approximately $16.6 million worldwide. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-11: Donald Trump jokes about Melania Trump’s documentary success Donald Trump joked at a Washington D.C. fundraiser about the success of Melania Trump’s new Amazon MGM Studios documentary, which has earned over $16.6 million at the box office. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/donald-trump-jokes-about-melania-trumps-documentary-success ### 2026-10-07: Melania Trump adviser compares documentary box office to Tom Cruise film Melania Trump’s adviser claims her documentary outperformed Tom Cruise’s ‘Digger’ by 67% on a per-theater basis, despite the documentary having a much smaller theatrical footprint. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/melania-trump-adviser-compares-documentary-box-office-to-tom-cruise-film --- Cite as: Melania Trump documentary release and performance.
