The jewelry house Messika has introduced its ‘Terres de Contrastes’ high jewelry collection, which features a rare blue diamond from Botswana. Initially identified as the ‘Austral Blue’, the 20.46-carat gem was cut from a 41.11-carat rough stone discovered at the Orapa mine in 2018. The diamond is noted as the largest and rarest blue diamond recorded in Botswana and the eighth-largest discovered globally.

Following its unveiling, the diamond, referred to as the ‘Okavango Blue’, was showcased during Paris Fashion Week at the Grand Palais. The presentation, which included the stone being worn by model Irina Shayk, serves as a collaboration between Messika and the government of Botswana. Botswana President Duma Gideon Boko described the partnership as a means to celebrate the nation’s heritage and authentic spirit.
