Following discussions between the Questura and local authorities, Questore Salvatore La Rosa required upgrades to meet Serie D standards, including the installation of a protective net in the Curva Sud and a retractable protective tunnel. These measures were expected to postpone the return to the facility by at least two weeks. By late October, further disruptions affected local sports, as a Serie B rugby match involving Messina Rugby was postponed from October 25 to November 22. The Italian Federation delayed the matchday due to widespread traffic disruptions caused by truck driver protests impacting travel in Southern Italy. On October 24, ACR Messina achieved a sporting milestone by reclaiming sole leadership of the Sicilian Eccellenza (Girone B). Following a 4-1 away victory against Palazzolo, the team moved to 17 points, overtaking Niscemi. The match was highlighted by a hat-trick from Tommaso Bonanno, who scored in the 1st, 23rd, and 34th minutes, alongside a goal from La Spada. Coach Alfio Torrisi praised the team’s cohesion, noting the squad functioned as “a single unit.” ## Timeline ### 2026-10-24: ACR Messina regains top spot with 4-1 victory over Palazzolo ACR Messina returned to the top of the Sicilian Eccellenza standings after a decisive 4-1 win against Palazzolo, highlighted by a hat-trick from Tommaso Bonanno. 20 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/messina-rugby-match-postponed-due-to-truck-driver-protests ### 2026-10-13: Messina stadium return delayed due to new security mandates Security upgrades, including protective netting and tunnels, have delayed ACR Messina's return to the Giovanni Celeste stadium. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/messina-stadium-return-delayed-due-to-new-security-mandates --- Cite as: Messina sports facility and event disruptions.
