Meta issued an apology following the temporary suspension of the Instagram account belonging to the No Kings Coalition, a US-based movement mobilizing for demonstrations regarding migration policy and civic engagement ahead of midterm elections. The suspension occurred during a nationwide day of action involving nearly 3,000 organized events. Meta initially attributed the lockout to automated security systems triggered by high-frequency posting, but later clarified that an AI tool, Anthropic’s Claude, was generating an unusually high volume of requests to scan posts and hashtags. This activity was incorrectly flagged as bot-like traffic. Although the account became publicly visible after approximately 90 minutes, organizers reported being unable to access the account’s backend for several hours. The No Kings Coalition has rejected Meta’s explanation as insufficient, with organizers calling for greater accountability and transparency regarding social media restrictions during election cycles. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-20: Meta apologizes for suspending No Kings Coalition Instagram account Meta apologized for accidentally suspending the Instagram account of the No Kings Coalition protest movement, blaming an automated security error triggered by unusual AI-driven traffic. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/meta-apologizes-for-suspending-no-kings-coalition-instagram-account ### 2026-10-17: Meta apologizes for suspending No Kings Coalition Instagram account Meta apologized for mistakenly suspending the No Kings Coalition’s Instagram account during U.S. protests, blaming an AI tool's high-frequency activity for triggering automated security systems. 8 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/meta-suspends-no-kings-coalition-instagram-account-during-us-protests --- Cite as: Meta Instagram suspension of No Kings Coalition.
