A series of fires occurred at Metis company facilities in Croatia during late September and October 2026. The incidents included a large fire at a Kukuljanovo warehouse on September 24, a fire at a recycling center in Pula on October 9, and a third blaze at a plant in the Kukuljanovo industrial zone on October 26.

Following the Pula fire, Mayor Peđa Grbin stated that air pollution from the mixed waste, including plastic and wood, did not pose a health risk as air quality stabilized. He called for police investigations to determine if there was a connection between the recent regional fires and announced plans to relocate the recycling facility.

After the October 26 fire in Kukuljanovo, which affected a recycling machine, the Primorsko-Primorsko-Goranska County Institute of Public Health conducted field measurements. Preliminary results from testing locations indicated no presence of dangerous compounds, though health authorities maintained ongoing monitoring.
