In Mexicali, local collectives and organizations are advancing memorial projects to honor victims of violence and disappearances.

In October 2026, the Célula de Búsqueda, an organization founded by the parents of a missing person, moved forward with plans for an anti-monument dedicated to missing persons. The project is intended for an area known as the ‘Bermuda Triangle’ due to high disappearance rates and is estimated to cost approximately two million pesos.

By November 2026, collectives including Cimarronas con Glitter and Latidos Violeta installed an ‘Altar de Muertas’ at the Baja California Justice Center. This installation honors women and trans women who were victims of femicide and transfemicide between 2010 and 2025. Organizers stated the altar serves to maintain memory and demand legal justice for unresolved cases.
