Mexican airports are experiencing significant growth in passenger traffic and expanded flight connectivity. In Puebla, the state government, led by Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier, has implemented a strategy to boost tourism, business, and economic mobility through new routes provided by Volaris. As part of this initiative, Volaris has incorporated 12 of its 35 new national connections into Puebla for 2026.

Starting December 1, 2026, new connections will include Chicago O’Hare, Acapulco, and Puerto Escondido. This expansion brings Puebla’s international destinations in the United States to four: Los Angeles, New York, Houston, and Chicago. Domestic connections will also include major cities such as Tijuana, Cancun, Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Merida. Secretary of Tourism Development Carla López-Malo Villalón noted that the update seeks to “strengthen high-potential connections.”

This expansion follows a period of rising passenger flow at Puebla International Airport, which recorded 339,515 arrivals from January to July 2026, a 19.66 percent increase over the previous year. Additionally, La Paz International Airport reported a historic monthly record in July, handling over 72,000 passengers, representing an 11 percent increase compared to July 2025.
