Cargo transporters in Mexico have initiated protests and formal accusations against federal authorities regarding alleged extortion and abuses at highway checkpoints.

In Michoacán, drivers organized a caravan to Morelia to denounce irregularities by the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR). Protesters reported that agents use checkpoints, specifically in the Taretan municipality, to commit abuses and charge excessive fees for tow trucks, ranging from 80,000 to 120,000 pesos. Transporters noted that while they coordinate with state and local security forces, FGR representatives have not participated in security working groups.

In Chihuahua, the National Confederation of Mexican Transporters (Conatram) reported similar issues on the route between Chihuahua and Ciudad Juárez. Group leader Édgar Olivas Balderrama alleged that FGR agents are “fabricating crimes at checkpoints” to demand money for the release of vehicles. Local officials in Delicias also reported disturbances caused by personnel from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), noting difficulties in contacting command staff to resolve the complaints.
