Mexico is engaging in various cultural programs involving dance and music. International collaborations include the presentation of Leïla Ka’s contemporary dance piece ‘Maldonne’ at the Teatro del Bosque Julio Castillo. The performance, which explores themes of femininity and resistance through the use of 40 dresses, is supported by the Mexican Ministry of Culture and INBAL to mark 200 years of diplomatic relations between Mexico and France.

Additionally, the ‘Raigambre’ project, curated by musicologist Montserrat Pérez Lima, is touring Europe. The project showcases the previously unpublished 19th-century works of 16 Mexican female composers through galas in France and Spain, including venues such as the Maison du Mexique in Paris and the University of Granada.

Domestically, the 41st Metropolitan Contemporary Dance Encounter is held in Monterrey from October 15 to 21, featuring works such as ‘Flor y Canto’, ‘Otro Sitio’, and ‘Escena Lateral’. 

Concurrently, the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL) is celebrating its 80th anniversary. Commemorative activities include the restaging of ‘Zapata’ and a series of events at the Palacio de Bellas Artes. These include the Balanchine Gala, presented by the National Dance Company from November 8 to 19, and the ‘Eight Concerts, Eight Decades’ music cycle organized by the National Coordination of Music and Opera.
