Legislators and senators in Mexico have expressed opposition to proposed fiscal measures for the 2027 fiscal year at both state and federal levels.

In the states of Querétaro and San Luis Potosí, lawmakers announced intentions to block what they termed “unjustified tax hikes.” In Querétaro, officials stated the State Congress would not approve municipal property value increases lacking technical support. In San Luis Potosí, representatives from the Green Party and the Labor Party committed to preventing new taxes or extraordinary increases that would negatively impact citizens.

At the federal level, senators from the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) rejected the 2027 fiscal package. Opposition members criticized the proposal for increasing public debt and imposing new tax burdens on taxpayers and companies. Concerns were raised regarding the authorization of net internal borrowing of up to 1.7 trillion pesos and the potential for public debt to reach 55 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Senators also demanded accountability regarding previous resource allocations and cited past irregularities as reasons for skepticism toward further federal loans.
