Scarlett Camberos and Julián Quiñones have been named to the final shortlist for the 2026 Ballon d’Or. This marks the end of a 19-year period without a Mexican nominee in the final selection. Camberos, the captain of América Femenil, has become the first Mexican woman to be nominated for the Women’s Ballon d’Or.

Camberos earned the nomination after a season in which she scored 27 goals and provided seven assists across 47 matches, leading her club to the Liga MX Femenil Clausura 2026 title. Her achievements also include winning the Concacaf Champions Cup and being named the Concacaf Most Valuable Player.

Alongside these individual honors, América Femenil has been nominated for the Women’s Club of the Year award, becoming the first club from Mexico or Concacaf to be included in this category. In response to the nominations, the club announced a special “tripleta” ticket promotion for fans to attend upcoming matches.
