Legal experts and civil society leaders in Mexico are raising concerns regarding the country’s rule of law and sovereignty. Attorney Juan Manuel Delgado González has argued for reforms to criminal and extradition policies, suggesting that the recent extradition of 92 individuals to the United States results in a loss of intelligence and resources.

Delgado proposes a framework where organized crime members and political accomplices are treated as ‘intelligence and monetary assets,’ requiring them to provide information and restitution within Mexico before being extradited. He warns that current practices allow the U.S. judicial system to leverage information at the expense of Mexican sovereignty.

Additionally, representatives from various legal organizations noted that while Mexico has many laws, enforcement remains a significant challenge. There are also expressed concerns regarding recent judicial reforms that critics claim undermine the independence of the Supreme Court.
