In Mexico, various municipalities and organizations are launching initiatives to promote Mexican Sign Language (LSM) and support the deaf community.

In Michoacán, the 3rd Michoacán Encounter of Mexican Sign Language, themed ‘Diversidad Visocultural 360°’, is scheduled for September 23–25, 2026. Hosted at the Universidad Politécnica Lázaro Cárdenas, the event features conferences and workshops focused on bilingual education, family responsibility, and inclusive communication to empower deaf individuals.

In Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, the municipal government has announced ‘Seña Fest’ for September 26 at the Plaza 28 de Julio amphitheater. Organized with civil society and the hearing-impaired community, the festival aims to foster empathy and accessibility through workshops, cultural activities, and artistic performances, including lessons on basic LSM expressions and the alphabet.

In observance of the International Day of Sign Languages, educators and specialists are also calling for increased promotion of LSM to ensure the social, cultural, and educational inclusion of deaf children. In Morelos, the Centro de Atención Múltiple (CAM) number 7 noted that a lack of LSM knowledge among families and the broader community creates barriers for students. 

Additionally, in Sinaloa, interpreter María Cristina Osorio Armenta highlighted the necessity of bilingual education, where LSM serves as the primary language alongside written Spanish. She noted that while medical interventions like hearing aids are common, LSM remains the native language through which deaf individuals express themselves most effectively.
