In early July 2026, the Mexican Secretariat of Culture launched a free summer theatre programme for children and teenagers through the Centro Cultural Helénico. Secretary Claudia Curiel de Icaza stated that guaranteeing access to art from early childhood is a way to “build wellbeing, contribute to integral development and strengthen the social fabric.”

By late July, facing federal budget cuts, the Secretariat restructured its finances, securing 600,000 pesos from the federal PROFEST program to maintain the Hay Festival Querétaro and other major festivals, while transferring some historic-building work to the Public Works Secretariat. In August, state-level efforts continued as Baja California announced over 200 artistic workshops for the upcoming academic term, and Yucatán concluded its Pecda cultural season. Additionally, the Secretariat expanded funding for traditional musicians and indigenous language artists through the Sistema Creación. The Músicos Tradicionales Mexicanos initiative doubled its grants to 40, while the Artes en Lenguas Indígenas Nacionales program increased support by 52 percent to bolster linguistic diversity, a move Curiel de Icaza described as “cultural justice.”
