In July 2026, leaders of Mexico’s DIF program highlighted the importance of women’s political participation and the inclusion of people with disabilities. Patricia López Navarro called for a greater female presence in public life, while Jessica Ríos organized events to improve services for people with disabilities.

By early August 2026, the State of Mexico’s Human Rights Commission (CODHEM) moved toward formal oversight by signing a coordination agreement with the State Secretariat of Women and the Instituto Mexiquense para la Discapacidad (IMEDIS). CODHEM president Víctor Leopoldo Delgado Pérez emphasized that physical, social, and institutional obstacles—rather than disability itself—limit access to justice. He stated that signing as a witness means “leaving a record that the agreement existed... and that, besides the signatories, there will be an institution attentive to demand its compliance.”

Legislative efforts also intensified. During the Second National Meeting of Public Servants with Disabilities at the Chamber of Deputies, Deputy María Soledad Amieva Zamora, alongside Deputies Mónica Herrera Villavicencio and Gabriela Hernández Islas, advocated for people with disabilities to be “direct protagonists in the design of public policies rather than being mere beneficiaries.” By mid-August, Amieva promoted awareness through an inclusive comic contest and proposed a Federal Labor Law reform requiring companies to allocate 2% of their workforce to persons with disabilities.

On August 18, 2026, new regional initiatives were reported. In the State of Mexico, Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez and DIFEM allocated over 15 million pesos to distribute 1,966 hearing aids and bone conduction vibrators across 86 municipalities to promote social and labor inclusion. Meanwhile, in Mexico City, Deputy Elizabeth Mateos Hernández proposed a motion for an ‘Inclusive Shout’ (Grito Incluyente) during Independence Day celebrations, requesting that all 16 boroughs provide physical accessibility and Mexican Sign Language interpreters.
