Mexico has launched a series of environmental and scientific initiatives. The National Week for Conservation, themed ‘Nature conservation: our future’, began with central activities at the Botanical Garden of the Chapultepec Forest in Mexico City. Organized with the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (Conanp), the program includes environmental education, forest and beach cleanups, and exhibitions to promote biodiversity and ecosystem respect. Following this, the Mexico City Ministry of the Environment (SEDEMA), via the Museum of Natural History and Environmental Culture (MHNCA), hosted a week of activities from October 13 to October 18. This program integrated scientific discussions and nature exploration with Day of the Dead traditions, featuring events such as lectures on paranormal activity and scientific discussions regarding vampires. To celebrate its 62nd anniversary and Day of the Dead, the MHNCA announced a subsequent week of cultural and scientific programming from October 28 to November 1, 2026.

Nationwide, Day of the Dead 2026 festivities include diverse cultural activities. In Morelia, Michoacán, tourists are visiting decorated plazas, while the Urandén springs offer traditional canoe tours through candlelit channels known as ‘El camino de las ánimas’. Jalisco has organized workshops, concerts, and exhibitions, while Xalapa, Veracruz, expects large parades of Catrinas and Catrines. Other regional celebrations include the Xantolo parade in Palma de la Cruz, the ‘Las Ánimas en el Bosque’ experience in Hidalgo, and the ‘Festival de las Ánimas’ in Ozumba.

To manage high attendance, authorities have implemented significant security measures. Mexico City is deploying over 11,000 police officers to monitor 120 cemeteries. Guerrero has mobilized over 500 security elements, and Colima is conducting a coordinated operation involving the Navy, Army, and National Guard for the 87th Feria de Todos los Santos. In Cancún and Fresnillo, municipal authorities are performing maintenance and inspections in cemeteries.
