The Mexican government, under President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, is developing a National and Integral Care Policy to address the gender gap caused by unpaid care work. Currently, women perform 72 percent of tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and caregiving for children or the elderly. 

Malú Mícher, president of the Senate Gender Equality Commission, described the initiative as a “turning point in the relationship between feminist movements and state institutions.” The policy aims to transition caregiving from a private burden to a social responsibility, though experts emphasize that success will require inter-institutional coordination and “adequate budgetary justice.”
