Mexico is undertaking various regional projects to improve water management and infrastructure. In the State of Mexico, authorities are initiating the Las Jaras-Barranca Grande wastewater collector in Toluca and investing 525 million pesos through 2026 to expand the well network in Ixtapaluca. The state's Water Secretariat is also investigating nature-based solutions, such as retention lagoons, to mitigate urban flooding.

In Puebla, hydraulic works are being conducted on Vía Atlixcáyotl to repair leaks and interconnect a new 30-inch pipe to improve distribution. Additionally, a new water treatment plant is under construction in Tamaulipas to support Ciudad Victoria.

Despite recent rainfall replenishing reservoirs, experts highlight systemic issues, noting that 40% to 50% of water from the Lerma-Cutzamala system is lost to leaks in the Valley of Mexico. There are ongoing calls for long-term investment, technological integration, and improved efficiency in the agricultural sector, which utilizes 76% of the nation's water.
