Amazon Prime Video released a trailer for ‘Meet the Owens’, a six-part docuseries following former England striker Michael Owen and his family. The series explores their daily lives and their horse-racing business, which manages approximately 140 horses and faces potential financial risks of up to £1 million in the upcoming year.

As the series premiere approached, Michael Owen and his daughter, dressage rider Gemma Owen, promoted the show on BBC Breakfast. Owen noted that the documentary aims to present his ‘authentic personality’ to counter a long-standing public perception of him being ‘boring’ during his football career. Gemma Owen added that the series would reveal a more entertaining side of her father.

The documentary also follows the various paths of the Owen children, including Gemma’s training in horse racing and daughter Jessica’s pursuit of showjumping. A significant aspect of the series involves Owen’s son, James Owen, who was diagnosed with Stargardt disease, a rare inherited eye disorder, at age eight. The condition has left James clinically blind and reliant on peripheral vision. Owen has discussed how the condition has shaped their relationship and James’s desire to build a future within the family’s racing operation.
