The Michigan Wolverines football team began their 2026 season undefeated through nonconference play under first-year head coach Kyle Whittingham. While the defense performed strongly, the offense showed inconsistency tied to quarterback Bryce Underwood’s play, and Whittingham noted concerns regarding the team’s early-game focus.

As the season progressed into Big Ten conference play, the team’s performance declined. Following two consecutive losses, the Wolverines held a 3-2 overall record and a 0-2 conference record. While the defense remained highly ranked at No. 6 in total defense, the offense struggled significantly, ranking poorly in total offense, rushing, passing, and scoring. Offensive coordinator Jason Beck has reportedly urged the team to ‘do a little bit more’ to address these deficiencies.
