Standing Stone Games announced the upcoming expansion for the MMORPG ‘The Lord of the Rings Online’ (LOTRO), titled ‘The Wolves of Mordor’, which is scheduled for release on October 21, 2026. The expansion will introduce players to Draugardh, a remote area of Mordor, and feature new locations such as Heledhris, Parth Rhavas, and Nan Ogol. The narrative focuses on Easterlings who worship wolves and the appearance of werewolf-like entities.

Alongside the expansion news, the studio released Update 49.6, ‘In Good Company’, which includes a ‘Neighbour System’ for player housing and UI scaling support.

Further developments in Middle-earth gaming include the release of a new tabletop cooperative strategic board game by Asmodee, ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Destiny of the Fellowship’. This game uses a system adapted from ‘Pandemic’ where players work together to protect Frodo from the forces of Sauron.
