Director Mike Flanagan has expressed intent to adapt Stephen King’s fantasy series, ‘The Dark Tower,’ into a television production. Flanagan aims for extreme fidelity to the source material, stating his strategy is to ‘simply do what is in the books.’ His long-term vision involves producing five seasons followed by two standalone films in chronological order.

Progress on the project has been hindered by complex legal and rights logistics. Because the series references characters and elements from various other King novels adapted by different studios, securing necessary permissions is a lengthy process. Flanagan described the project as ‘one of the most complicated brands to launch’ he has ever encountered.
