Republican Congressman Mike Lawler is building significant labor support for his reelection campaign in New York’s 17th Congressional District.

In August, Lawler received formal endorsements from eleven law enforcement unions and organizations representing various jurisdictions, including Rockland County, the Hudson Valley, and New York City. These groups cited his legislative record on public safety and his opposition to efforts to defund police as primary reasons for their support.

By September, Lawler expanded his coalition to include more than 30 labor unions. This growth followed 20 additional endorsements from groups such as the Teamsters, maritime unions, building trades, and federal and postal employee organizations.

The 17th District is viewed as a critical swing seat. While Lawler has gained support from various AFL-CIO affiliates, his Democratic opponent, Cait Conley, maintains backing from the New York State AFL-CIO, New York State United Teachers, and 1199 SEIU.
