Sistema Faemg Senar has initiated a major coffee crop research project in Varginha, Minas Gerais, to provide direct data on Arabica coffee production. The study utilizes statistical methods validated by the Federal University of Lavras to analyze planted areas, productivity, and harvest estimates.

Initial research emphasized the importance of managing the flowering period between September and November, noting that water availability and nutrition are critical to preventing fruit abortion. Following this research, the first Coffee Harvest Survey projected the 2026 Arabica harvest in Minas Gerais to reach 33.4 million bags. This estimate, based on data from over 5,000 rural properties, is higher than previous projections released by Conab and IBGE. Antônio de Salvo, president of Sistema Faemg Senar, noted that the survey aims to provide reliable primary data to guide decision-making across the production chain.

In August, Brazil achieved a record volume of coffee exports, shipping 4.155 million 60kg bags, a 31% increase compared to August 2025, according to the Coffee Exporters Council of Brazil (Cecafé). This surge creates significant market space for the upcoming Minas Gerais harvest. In the Cerrado Mineiro region, the Arabica harvest is nearing completion, with approximately 99% of the work finished in certain cooperative areas. Additionally, in Rondônia, coffee accounted for US$ 34 million in exports during August, representing 13.4% of the state’s monthly total, with Egypt emerging as a primary buyer.
