Jordan Yap, a 30-year-old hiker from Melbourne, Australia, has been found dead in Peru’s Huayhuash mountain range. Yap had been missing since September 14, when he embarked on a solo high-altitude trek through the remote circuit located approximately 400km northeast of Lima.

The alarm was raised after Yap failed to check in at his hotel or board a scheduled flight. While search operations by the Peruvian High Mountain Police and the rescue organization Socorro Andino Peruano had previously focused on sectors including Cuartelhuain and Viconga, his body was reportedly located near the remote village of Machaycancha.

Yap’s family has confirmed the news and expressed gratitude to the various teams involved in the search efforts. The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is currently providing consular assistance to the family.
