In mid-September, MK Dons played to a 0-0 draw against AFC Wimbledon in a League One match characterized by controversy. The fixture involved disputed penalty decisions and off-pitch tensions, including calls from AFC Wimbledon co-founder Ivor Heller for MK Dons to drop ‘Dons’ from their name, as well as police intervention to manage rival supporters.

By early October, following an international break, MK Dons entered a fixture against Reading. At that time, the club was seeking its first league win of the season after a period of draws and a single defeat.
