Professional baseball player Tsung-Che Cheng experienced a turbulent season involving four Designated for Assignment moves. After being released by the Pittsburgh Pirates, Cheng joined the Boston Red Sox, where he recorded his first Major League hit on June 27. During a press conference in Taiwan, Cheng addressed his recent struggles and his mindset regarding his place in the Major Leagues.

Following his time with the Red Sox, the Detroit Tigers acquired Cheng in exchange for cash considerations. The 25-year-old infielder, who can play shortstop, second base, and third base, joined the Tigers to provide middle infield depth. Because he no longer has minor league options, Cheng was expected to occupy a spot on the Tigers' 40-man roster.
