Preparations for the 2026 Mường Lò Culture and Tourism Festival in Lào Cai province initially focused on tourism development and safety surveys. During this period, local police took action against an individual for spreading false information on social media regarding the event, noting that such misinformation can “disrupt public order and damage the reputation” of cultural activities.

The festival officially opened on October 16, 2026, under the theme ‘Tinh hoa Xòe Thái - Sắc màu Tây Bắc’. The event commemorates the 5th anniversary of Xòe Thái art being recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The opening featured a large-scale performance with nearly 2,000 participants using 3D mapping technology. The festival, scheduled to run through October 21, includes street parades, tourism fairs, and traditional sports to promote regional heritage and economic development.
