Moldova has concluded a tender process to expand its renewable energy capacity through wind power and battery storage. In mid-August, seven onshore wind power projects totaling 170 MW were awarded to winning bidders, including the “Lumina Noastră” Consortium, the “Navitas Energy” Consortium (owned by Joseco Holdings Co. Limited), the “LEAFWIND ENERGY” SRL and “Oromaxmontaj” SRL consortium, and the “Summa FIBA Enerji” Consortium. The winning bids, which ranged between 1.2398 and 1.2528 lei/kWh (excluding VAT), were selected based on the lowest offered price for electricity production.

To enhance the flexibility of the National Energy System, all selected projects are required to install Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), with a minimum storage requirement of 0.25 MWh for every MW of supported wind energy.

To address energy market volatility, the Moldovan government is accelerating the implementation of these projects by simplifying administrative procedures. Key measures include providing flexible grid connection permits for BESS with a total capacity of up to 200 MW. Furthermore, urban planning and construction authorities are tasked with prioritizing documentation for energy production and storage facilities. The Civil Aviation State Administration will expedite permits for wind farms in restricted aeronautical zones, and customs services will establish a priority corridor for importing necessary equipment.
