The visit prompted calls from the Liberal Party for investigations by the General Prosecutor's Office and the Intelligence and Security Service into potential political ties to Moscow and external funding. During the visit, Dodon met with representatives from the United Russia and A Just Russia parties to advocate for a strategic dialogue and cheaper natural gas supplies for Moldova. Dodon suggested that Moldova could be drawn into the conflict in Ukraine due to the alleged transit of weaponry through its territory. Moldovan officials, including PAS deputy Andrian Cheptonar, criticized these assertions, stating they lack factual basis and emphasizing Moldova’s constitutional neutrality.
