Montenegrin and regional handball clubs have experienced a series of losses in European competitions. In September, Budućnost suffered a 27:22 defeat against Brest in the EHF Champions League, marking their third consecutive loss. During the same period, Sutjeska and Budvanska rivijera were eliminated from the EHF European Cup after failing to overcome deficits against Berchem and Drama, respectively.

By early October, the trend of defeats continued in the Champions League. Krim OTP Group Mercator recorded its fourth consecutive loss following a 25:28 defeat to Brest. Additionally, Budućnost lost 27:21 to Esbjerg, a match influenced by a red card for Nina Bulatović.
