Montse Tomé, the former manager of the Spanish women’s national team, has been appointed as the new head coach of Pachuca Femenil in Mexico. She succeeds Óscar Torres, who left the club following a difficult start to the Apertura 2026 tournament.

Tomé’s appointment has resurfaced public tension between her and Spanish footballer Jenni Hermoso. Following the announcement, Hermoso, who currently plays for Atlético de Madrid and previously played for Pachuca, posted the message ‘Que el viento os proteja’ (May the wind protect you) on Instagram. This cryptic comment has been interpreted as a remark toward her former coach.

The friction originates from the period after the 2023 World Cup, when Tomé excluded Hermoso from national team call-ups. While Tomé claimed the decision was intended to protect the player, Hermoso publicly contested this justification, questioning what she was being protected from.
