In early July 2026 the Morelia cable‑car project was reported to have reached roughly 70 % of its overall construction work. By early August the effort moved into a critical stage: the installation of the main carrier‑tractor cable. The 50 mm galvanized steel strand, supplied by Swiss firm Fatzer, was laid to enable gondola movement. According to project lead María Elena Huerta, the first loop now has all 20 towers and a communications system in place, while the second loop still requires four towers between the Obelisco and Santa María stations. After the cable is spliced, the system will proceed to electromechanical testing.
