Morgan State University’s homecoming celebrations have been marked by both administrative tension and historical commemoration. In early October 2026, alumni launched a petition protesting new safety-related restrictions, including a 5 p.m. campus cutoff and high costs for ‘Tent City’. These protocols were implemented following a 2023 incident involving shootings on campus, which contributed to a decline in attendance from previous years. University President David Wilson maintained that the 2026 protocols would remain unchanged.

Despite these disputes, the university proceeded with its homecoming festivities in Baltimore, celebrating 159 years since its founding. The event highlighted the institution’s status as a ‘National Treasure’ and its role as a significant doctoral research institution in Maryland.
