In the first half of 2026, Moroccan ports exhibited divergent fishing trends. The Port of Asfi saw a sharp 37% decline in landings, with total discharges falling to 14,039 tons and market value dropping 42% to 95.5 million dirhams. Conversely, the Port of Tangier experienced significant growth, with landings rising 98% compared to the previous year to 5,239 tons by late July.

The Port of Nador also faced challenges, with landings dropping 11% to 1,829 tons by late July, while market value fell 10% to approximately 82.7 million dirhams.

Nationally, the Moroccan fishing sector showed overall growth. By late July, the National Fisheries Office (ONP) reported that total coastal and artisanal fishing landings reached 551,547 tons, a 5% increase from the previous year, with total market value rising 2% to over 6.28 billion dirhams.

Regional performance showed a split between coasts: Atlantic ports saw landings rise 5% in weight and value increase 3% to nearly 5.85 billion dirhams. In contrast, Mediterranean ports saw an 8% increase in volume but a 10% decline in value, totaling approximately 427.4 million dirhams. Within these regions, Tarfaya Port reported a 42% increase in landings, while species-wise, pelagic fish and cephalopods saw volume gains, though white fish and shellfish experienced declines in value.
