Morocco is advancing large-scale solar energy initiatives through both state-led infrastructure and industrial applications.

The Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) has contracted a consortium led by ACWA Power and SENER to expand the Noor Ouarzazate complex. This project will add 350 MW of capacity using Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) technology with molten salt storage to enable electricity generation after sunset. The expansion is supported by the World Bank and the African Development Bank.

Simultaneously, the OCP Group is implementing the ‘OCP Solar #2’ project, which involves installing 400 MWc of photovoltaic capacity in Benguerir and Khouribga. This $380 million initiative includes 100 MWh of battery storage to power industrial and mining operations. The project aims to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 639,500 tonnes annually and is part of a broader strategy to reach over 2 GW of renewable capacity.
