Moroccan and Swedish authorities have engaged in security cooperation to address transnational organized crime. Following the arrest of a 27-year-old Swedish national in Tangier on an Interpol Red Notice for suspected drug trafficking and illegal firearms possession, Morocco initiated extradition procedures.

This cooperation culminated in the extradition of two Swedish nationals to Sweden. One suspect, a 28-year-old, is alleged to have led a wholesale narcotics network supplying criminal organizations in Sweden and the Nordic region. The second suspect, aged 42, is accused of leadership roles in cannabis smuggling operations between 2020 and 2021.

Jonas Hemmar, deputy head of the international unit at Sweden’s National Operations Department, noted that these actions follow a recently signed agreement between the two nations intended to facilitate the location and arrest of high-level criminals.
