Following the mid‑July spike that prompted intensive vector‑control in Nogales, Sonora and Salobreña, Spain, Mexican health authorities have continued to scale up measures as the dengue outbreak expands. On 13 July the federal ministry reported seven confirmed dengue deaths and 126 severe cases nationwide, with 1,648 patients showing warning signs and 1,400 non‑severe infections. The highest case totals were in Sonora (898), Veracruz (499), Tabasco (440), Sinaloa (439) and Baja California Sur (178); Sinaloa led with 30 severe cases. Officials reiterated advice to eliminate standing water, cover containers and remove breeding sites.

The same week, Nogales repeated larval treatment of 500 homes, aerial spraying of 40 kg larvicide over 60 ha and door‑to‑door education, while Salobreña intensified fumigation, added traps and maintained water‑site surveillance through 20 August.

Heavy rains and unusually high temperatures in late July triggered a broader surge of mosquitoes across Mexican cities. Dr Romero A. Saldaña Vázquez warned that water in drains, flower pots and other containers fuels breeding and urged residents to use screens, wear protective clothing and apply repellents, especially during peak activity periods.

By early August the Yucatán Peninsula recorded a 102 % rise in dengue, with 201 confirmed cases—most (167) in Quintana Roo—prompting intensified fumigation and public warnings. The same period saw six heat‑related deaths on the peninsula and a national peak of 13 heat‑related fatalities during the week of 19‑25 July, affecting Baja California and Sonora as well.
