During the MotoGP Indonesia 2026 event at the Mandalika International Circuit, Yamaha rider Alex Rins was involved in a heated exchange with track marshals following a crash during a practice session. The conflict arose from a misunderstanding regarding evacuation procedures, as Rins attempted to use a marshal’s motorcycle to return to the paddock while officials insisted on car evacuation to comply with safety protocols.

Rins issued a public apology via his X account, acknowledging his unprofessional emotional reaction while stating he rejects the threats to his safety after receiving death threats and messages of violence on social media.

In related developments, Fermin Aldeguer sustained a fracture to the base of the first metacarpal bone in his right hand following a crash at turn 16 while running in fourth place. Aldeguer has since undergone successful surgery in Spain, performed by specialist Dr. Xavier Mir. While Aldeguer expressed gratitude to the medical team, his participation in the upcoming Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island remains uncertain. This injury follows a difficult season for the Spanish rider, who previously suffered a femur fracture in January and a vertebra fracture in Assen.

Following his surgery, Gresini Racing confirmed that Iker Lecuona will substitute for Aldeguer at the Malaysian MotoGP in Sepang. Lecuona, the 2026 World Superbike runner-up, previously filled in for Aldeguer at the Phillip Island Grand Prix in Australia. Lecuona will continue to represent the team during the final stages of the Asian tour while Aldeguer recovers.
