Recent incidents in the Austrian mountains have involved hikers becoming lost and requiring rescue operations.

In late August, an 18-year-old woman was located on the Rax mountain after spending a night in the wilderness. A large-scale search involving mountain rescue members, drones, a helicopter, and search dogs was initiated after her mobile phone battery died. She was found safe after hiking toward a train station at daybreak.

In late September, two 17-year-olds were rescued in the Toten Gebirge mountains. After their headlamp and mobile phone batteries failed during a late descent, a rescue team searched on foot due to weather conditions that prevented helicopter use. The pair was located uninjured at an altitude of 850 meters.
