The situation regarding MTN Nigeria’s service quality began with individual consumer complaints regarding persistent connectivity issues. A viral video highlighted a user’s frustration with unreliable service that had reportedly lasted for two months.

This transitioned into a widespread network outage affecting multiple regions, including Lagos, Oyo, Rivers, Delta, and Abuja. The disruption impacted voice calls, mobile data, and digital financial transactions. Following a directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission to improve transparency, MTN apologized for the technical issues and confirmed that engineers were deployed to restore services and strengthen infrastructure.
