The incident occurred during preparations for a demolition operation by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA). The collapse struck residential structures in the Qureshi Nagar slum and damaged vehicles, injuring between eight and eleven people, including a three-month-old baby and a 10-year-old boy. The accident also disrupted goods train movement on the Kurla-Trombay railway section after the crane contacted overhead electrical equipment.
