The regional phase of the Mundial Mujeres LIBRES football tournament has begun in Puebla, Mexico, following state-level qualifiers involving over 4,600 participants. The competition features winning teams from four national regions vying for a position in the national grand final set for October.

In the Central Region, the Atitalaquia team from Hidalgo secured the first qualification for the final by defeating the State of Mexico 4-0. 

Promoted as a tool for social transformation, peace, and the exercise of women’s rights, the tournament aligns with the vision of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. Officials noted that the initiative aims to foster social cohesion and challenge gender myths through the use of public spaces. There are currently more than 1,000 LIBRE centers operating nationwide.
