To mark the 20th anniversary of the album The Black Parade, My Chemical Romance released a deluxe edition featuring previously unreleased material, including a live recording from 2007. Guitarist Frank Iero noted that 13 unique, one-of-one artwork variants were created by modifying original prints by artist James Jean. The anniversary celebrations included the release of an animated short film titled Prelude to the End, a collaboration with visual artist Lauren Tsai and her studio, UNREAL INC. The film, which runs between seven and nine minutes, merges the visual world of Tsai’s previous work, The Dying World, with the album’s opening track, “The End.” The narrative follows a student named Astrid at a repressive boarding school called the Paper Academy, who enters a surreal world of forgotten ideas after her sketchbook is confiscated and thrown into a garbage chute. The project features a voice cast including Lauren Tsai as Astrid, Billie Eilish as her friend, Phoebe Bridgers as her sister, Hideo Kojima as a teacher, and John C. McGinley as the school dean. The film’s soundtrack integrates the band’s song “The End” with a live recording of Pascal Dusapin’s Flying River, Violin Concerto, performed by the Utopia Orchestra. Prelude to the End was scheduled to screen during the band’s final residency performances at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on October 30 and 31, 2026. ## Timeline ### 2026-11-01: My Chemical Romance and Lauren Tsai release animated film Prelude to the End My Chemical Romance and artist Lauren Tsai have released Prelude to the End, an animated short film featuring voices by Billie Eilish, Phoebe Bridgers, and Hideo Kojima. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/my-chemical-romance-and-lauren-tsai-release-animated-film-prelude-to-the-end ### 2026-10-30: My Chemical Romance releases animated short Prelude to the End My Chemical Romance and artist Lauren Tsai have released Prelude to the End, an animated short film featuring voices from Billie Eilish, Phoebe Bridgers, and Hideo Kojima to celebrate The Black Parade's 20thann 27 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/my-chemical-romance-and-lauren-tsai-release-short-film-prelude-to-the-end ### 2026-10-28: My Chemical Romance releases 20th anniversary edition of The Black Parade My Chemical Romance has released a 20th anniversary deluxe edition of The Black Parade, featuring unreleased live recordings and rare, one-of-one hand-drawn artwork variants by guitarist Frank Iero. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/my-chemical-romance-releases-20th-anniversary-edition-of-the-black-parade --- Cite as: My Chemical Romance The Black Parade anniversary.
