On the administrative front, the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (MDoNER) has directed the Nagaland government to expedite ongoing development projects and strengthen monitoring to ensure timely completion. Officials have urged the state to submit priority project proposals for the 16th Finance Commission by the end of October, specifically highlighting the need for a roadmap to address socioeconomic gaps through initiatives like the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE). Simultaneously, the state continues to struggle with significant developmental and political issues. Inadequate infrastructure, particularly dilapidated road conditions, remains a primary obstacle that isolates villages and limits access to essential services. These physical challenges are compounded by deep-seated political issues, including systemic corruption and vote-buying practices driven by complex campaign funding networks and a perceived lack of accountability among elected representatives. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-23: Nagaland faces developmental challenges and political corruption Nagaland faces persistent developmental struggles, including inadequate road infrastructure and systemic issues surrounding political corruption and vote-buying. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/nagaland-faces-developmental-challenges-and-political-corruption ### 2026-10-21: MDoNER urges Nagaland to expedite development projects India's MDoNER has urged Nagaland to expedite PM-DevINE projects and submit priority lists for the 16th Finance Commission by late October. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/mdoner-urges-nagaland-to-expedite-development-projects --- Cite as: Nagaland development and political challenges.
